MP3 to KFN: make KaraFun files from your songs

KFN is the karaoke format of KaraFun-compatible players. Here is what it is and how to create one from an audio file you already have.

What a KFN file is

A KFN file is a single package that holds everything a karaoke player needs: the music, the lyrics, the exact timing of every word and the background images. Players compatible with KaraFun open it and show the lyrics in time with the song, highlighting each word as it is sung.

An MP3 holds only sound. Turning it into KFN means adding the parts an MP3 does not have: the lyrics and their timing — and ideally a backing track without the vocals.

Why it is usually hard

Made by hand, a KFN takes hours: finding the lyrics, typing them in, and tapping along to mark when every line and word starts. Removing the vocals needs separate audio software on top.

How Karafy does it automatically

  1. You open your MP3 (or WAV, FLAC, M4A, OGG, MP4, MKV).
  2. Karafy separates the vocals from the instrumental.
  3. AI on your computer transcribes the lyrics with the timing of every word, then checks them against published lyrics.
  4. You review the result in the built-in editor and fix anything that is off.
  5. Karafy saves two KFN files: one with the original song, and one marked (karaoke) with the clean backing track for singing.

The same song can also be exported as MP4, MP3+G or LRC whenever you need another format.

Common questions

Which programs open KFN?

KaraFun-compatible karaoke players. If your player reads CD+G instead, export MP3+G.

Does the file need the internet to play?

No. The KFN contains everything; it plays offline.

Can I edit the lyrics after export?

Yes — reopen the song in Karafy, fix it in the editor and export again.

What does it cost?

The first 10 songs are free. Pro is a one-time payment for unlimited songs on your own PC.
